Para formarse en el área de la odontología, el primer paso es estudiar el grado en Odontología. Algo que, hoy en día, muchas Universidades de Chiles imparten. Ahora bien, al igual que sucede en otras carreras, en la especialización está la clave para incorporarse en el mercado laboral y tener éxito profesional.
En Somos Dent te queremos presentar las especialidades que podrás encontrar en nuestra clínica y tengas una mejor atención. Si hay una cosa que caracteriza a la odontología es las numerosas especializaciones con las que cuenta. Nosotros hemos querido recopilar algunas de las más comunes a continuación:
ODONTOLOGÍA GENERAL
Los odontólogos generales se encargan, principalmente, de la prevención, diagnóstico, y tratamiento de los problemas básicos que afectan a la salud oral de sus pacientes: revisiones periódicas, limpiezas, obturaciones dentales o empastes, etc.
Igualmente, dan consejos del cuidado de los dientes y la higiene bucodental con el propósito de evitar la aparición de enfermedades graves que precisarían la atención de un odontólogo más especializado.
CIRUGÍA
Un odontólogo especializado en cirugía oral es aquel que interviene en el caso de enfermedades y lesiones que afectan a cabeza, cuello, cara, mandíbula y tejidos duros y blandos de la boca. También, si el paciente ha nacido con algún defecto o malformación en estas partes del cuerpo. Según la complejidad del tratamiento quirúrgico, puede requerir la participación de otros especialistas médicos.
ENDODONcia
De las diferentes especialidades de la odontología, la endodoncia es la que se enfoca en las enfermedades que afectan a la pulpa dental (el tejido blando del diente que contiene los nervios, los vasos sanguíneos y el tejido conectivo), ya sean derivadas de una infección, o bien, por causas físicas o químicas.

ODONTOPEDIATRÍA

ORTODONCIA
Esta es la especialidad de la odontología que se ocupa del estudio, la prevención, el diagnóstico y la corrección de las anomalías presentes en los dientes y la mandíbula que afectan a la morfología y al funcionamiento del aparato masticatorio. Su objetivo es mejorar la salud dental del paciente, además de la estética.

REHABILITACIÓN ORAL
La prostodoncia es la rama que se hace cargo del remplazo y restauración de las piezas dentales ausentes o dañadas mediante el empleo de coronas, puentes, implantes y prótesis removibles. Con ello, se busca que el paciente tenga una correcta función masticatoria, fonética y de deglución, además de mejorar su aspecto físico. En ocasiones, el prostodoncista trabaja codo con codo con profesionales de otras especialidades de la odontología.
IMPLANTOLOGIA
La implantología consiste en la colocación de uno o varios tornillos de titanio biocompatibles con el cuerpo humano. Estos tornillos llamados “Implantes dentales” se ubican dentro del hueso y simulan las raíces de él o los dientes perdidos. Luego, sobre los Implantes se instalan las coronas dentales, las cuales simulan la pieza dental perdida.
